Problems with Passwords

Passwords have been the standard way to secure accounts for a long time. While they’ve helped protect us, they also create many problems:

  • Hard to remember: Long and complex passwords are difficult to keep track of.
  • Easy to forget: When we make passwords complicated, we tend to forget them.
  • Easy to guess: Many people still use weak passwords like “123456” or “password.”
  • Reused across accounts: Using the same password for multiple accounts makes it easier for hackers to break in.

Password managers like 1Password, LastPass, and Dashlane help, but they still rely on passwords and have their own risks.

To solve these issues, a better way of authentication was needed. Passkeys were created to fix these problems and make logging in simpler and safer.
